The Halifax credit card is only available to residents
of the UK who also have a UK bank account. You must be
at least 18 years of age to apply for a Halifax credit
card. There is no annual membership fee for their creditcards
and you can apply for most of their products online.
They offer both MasterCard and Visa creditcards and both
are widely accepted worldwide in retail outlets and cash
machines, although in certain areas acceptance levels
may vary. They offer useful CreditCard Repayment Cover
which is an excellent package that has been selected to
be made available to all eligible members.
It is a benefit that will assist in meeting your payments
each month if you are unable to work due to illness or
unemployment. This will be paid in addition to any sickness
pay you may already receive from your employer. Their
cover costs just 78p per £100 of your statement
balance.
When you open a CreditCard account with them you will
be sent a book of convenience cheques that you can use
to pay any utility bills, catalogues, other lenders, or
make payable into your own high street bank account. The
handling fees for this service are 1.5% min £1.50
and max £20-25 depending on which of their credit
cards you choose.
You can make a payment on your creditcard account with
them by Direct Debit, Cheque and debit slip, Telephone
banking or Online using a debit card.You may also want
to change your payment date to coincide with your pay
day. If so, they can arrange this for you.
In order to help them make a sound decision they require
at least six months payment history on your account before
increasing your creditlimit. They advise that you allow
your account to run for a minimum of six months before
you apply for an increase to the creditlimit available
on your account.
